Greetings,
Xi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will host
its 19th Annual Debutante Scholarship Ball at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel
on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. The Debutante Scholarship Ball is
our annual fundraiser which features our 2011 Progressive Teens and 2011
scholarship recipients.
Since the mid-eighties Xi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc. has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving high school
seniors in the Anchorage community. Many of our past scholarship recipients
have gone on to complete post secondary education, have successful careers
and have become productive members of our community. We need your support
to continue this tradition. We invite you to attend the event and/or
advertise in our annual souvenir book. Event tickets are $45 per person
and the advertising costs are attached. All proceeds from advertising and
ticket sales will be used to support our scholarship and community awards
programs.
We would like very much to include you and/or your organization as
advertisers in our souvenir book. For a minimal cost, the souvenir book
offers an opportunity for you to support our scholarship fund as well as
have your advertisement viewed by several hundred people at the event and
throughout the year. In an effort to support Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's
national focus on environment stewardship, Xi Psi Omega Chapter is going
green by producing its first ever electronic souvenir book which will be
electronically viewed and distributed at the event and posted on the Xi Psi
Omega website for an entire year.
Please include us in your charitable contributions budget for 2011 and
respond before, or no later than, Saturday, April 16, 2011. If you need
additional information, please contact any one of the Debutante Scholarship
Committee members listed below.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Sheila Hall, President

In 1988 Xi Psi Omega became involved in the Miss Alaska Pre-teen Pageant. One of our soror's daughters was a contestant and the sorority was one of her sponsors. It was very pleasing and rewarding to have Kristina Bellamy reign
as the first black Miss Alaska Pre-teen. The Progressive Teen Program consists of junior and senior girls from local high schools. It was started in 1992 by several sorority members who possessed an overwhelming concern to enhance positive qualities in the
African-American female teenagers in the Anchorage community.
The desire to direct these young ladies towards self-discovery was their goal; it continues to be the chapter's goal as we strive to enhance young ladies in the areas of self-esteem, college preparation,
etiquette, and respect for themselves as African-American women. Workshops along with other activities conducted by professionals on a variety of subjects included self-defense, date-rape, scholarship folder completion, examination of college choices,
promoting employable skills, and exposure to the arts in attending a variety of professional performances at the Anchorage Performance Arts Center. This is a year-round program with the culminating activity being the Debutante Ball, a fund-raiser ball held the latter part of May each year.
The next Debutante Ball will be held on May 21, 2011.
